Covid-19 and Mental Health of Individuals with Different Personalities

Several studies have been devoted to establishing the effects of Covid-19 pandemic on mental health across gender, age and ethnicity. However, much less attention has paid differential effect lockdown according different personalities. We do this using UKHLS longitudinal dataset, representative UK population. The dataset allows us assess same respondent during period year before based their personality Big Five traits cognitive skills. find that individuals who more Extrovert Open report a higher deterioration, while ones scoring in Agreeableness are affected. Openness is particularly strong: one standard deviation predict symptom GHQ12 test for about 1 over 4. In female respondents, Cognitive Skills strong predictors deterioration. Neuroticism seems as it normal expect, but not significant main specifications estimated model. study's results robust inclusion potential confounding variables such changes in: physical health, household income job status (like unemployed or furloughed).
